NIGHT SERIES / PRE-SEASON CUP:

RECORDS & STATISTICS

The series has been played over three distinct eras:

1956-1971 - Consolation series played annually in September/October by the 8 teams that missed the VFL finals
1977-1987 - Night Series (VFL 1977-78 / AFC  1979-86 / VFL 1987)
1988-2013 - Pre-Season Cup

Statistical records from all three eras are officially combined (including the AFC series from 1979-86 which, although dominated on-field and in the board room by the VFL, was actually run independently of the VFL).
