1962 VFL NIGHT PREMIERSHIP

*Richmond's drought broken - the 1962 night title was the Tigers' first senior flag since winning the 1943 VFL Premiership and the 1953 Lightning Premiership.

*Curtain-raisers - played for the first time since 1957 and featured a round-robin competition between schoolboy teams from Altona, Clayton, Middle Park, Newport, South Melbourne Y.C.W., West Altona, Williamstown C.Y.M.S. - Newport won the inaugural Shell-South Melbourne FC Junior Night Premiership Shield.

*Fight the darkness - a series preview in the Round 18 edition of the Football Record notes: "The Football Record will be published for night matches and, to assist patrons, the list of players' names will be printed in larger type than usual."

*Peck fires - Hawthorn's John Peck kicked 7 goals against Collingwood in the second semi-final and was the leading goalkicker of the series with 12 goals from three matches.
